i have customers that added payment methods for us bank accounts. Those methods were added without a balance financial connection.
Can we retroactively request balance permissions for those existing payment methods?
Normally, when creating a setup intent, we can request balance financial connection. Since we didn't request it originally, we have a lot of payment methods without that access.
If possible, I want to avoid forcing customers to re-adding payment methods with the proper access.

I think so.
Currently, we create a payment intent and add a financial connection option to get the payment method. The client uses stripe elements to utilize the payment intent / ephemeral to allow payment method addition / selection.
All the added payment methods on customers have come through the flow described above.
