This would be so the customer would not have to go through KYC onboarding again, etc.

You should be able to use the oauth flow (https://stripe.com/docs/connect/oauth-reference) to connect an existing connect account to a platform without having them go through all the KYC again

The existing account is not a connect account however

#

it is a standalone Stripe account (non-connect)

That's what this flow is intended for - it takes standalone accounts and allows them to be connected to a platform
