Have you tried using the "Decline after attaching" test card? It wouldn't be able to succeed on the first payment but it would let you properly test what happens when the card is expired for the second one https://stripe.com/docs/testing?testing-method=card-numbers#declined-payments

I just tried and it worked, thanks! but one question, is it the only test card with declined payment that I can use?

It is the only one that I know of that would work for your scenario. As far as I know, the other ones don't let you attach them

I would have also thought that that would skip that validation here but if you are still seeing the decline in your tests it sounds like that will still always happen with the rest of the decline test cards

I will try again just in case I didn't do it well. Another question, I was able to attach the "Decline after attaching" test card to the customer, but now I can't make it the default payment method. Is that allowed with that credit card?

Sounds like you figured out setting it as the default? As far as I know, we should not restrict that once the card is attached
