hello! we close the channel on weekends and holidays. That's why you're unable to post!
If you're not having trouble when submitting in incognito, it sounds like an extension might be causing some issues in the browser you're using. You might want to try disabling them or try on a different browser to see if that makes a difference.
@runic tapir lets continue the conversation in the thread
Possibly. Or could be because I was signed in vs not signed in when using incognito.
Not sure, my extensions haven't ever affected a form submission before.
how can i help with your questions?
I couldn't even submit a form to your website until a moment ago.
So I solved that.
It has a more detailed description of what I need. Namely:
I'm building a website for small yoga studios to list their classes so their students can book their classes and the studio can receive payment.
I'll charge $150AUD/month fee, plus 5% of their revenue (I'll pay Stripe fees out of the 5%).
I need to figure out which kind of Stripe Connect account to use (e.g. Standard Vs Express) and which charges (Destination Vs Direct charges).
Some considerations:
-
When will yoga studios receive payout (e.g if the student pays for a class on Monday, when does the studio receive that money?)
-
What happens if there's a charge back?
-
What does the yoga studio need to do to maintain the account (if anything)?
-
Total fees. E.g. on $100 worth of student bookings, how much does the yoga studio receive and how much does the platform (me) receive?
-
I'd like to charge a monthly subscription ($150AUD) as well as ~5% of transactions volumes (less fees). So I think I'd need subscriptions and stripe connect. Does that sound right? How does that work?
I'd like to understand this information soon in order to make a decision and get started.
gimme a while to get back to you

It depends on the payout speed : https://stripe.com/docs/payouts#payout-speed
What happens if there's a charge back?
you might want to go through the guides here :
- and this one especially : https://stripe.com/docs/disputes/connect
What does the yoga studio need to do to maintain the account (if anything)?
If additional information is required in order to verify the account, then they would need to provide those, but other than that, the yoga studio shouldn't need to do anything.

If your confusion here is over the Stripe fees, then it depends on what payment method you're using : https://stripe.com/pricing.
However, you would be able to adjust the application fee amount or amount being transferred to the connected in order to ensure that you receive the 5% that you want to charge.

Yes, you'll need Connect. You can take a look at this section : https://stripe.com/docs/connect#collect-recurring-payments
Yikes, that's horrific. lol.
The reason I ask for specifics is because the docs dont' provide it.
Example, regarding chargebacks, it says "Stripe debits your balance for the payment amount and dispute fee", yet there's no link to the actual fee. Like just tell me $5 or something, not some vague "dispute fee" terminology, I need a dollar amount.
ugh.
I can't wait for something to replace stripe, or someone to work at stripe who cares about clear communicate in docs rather than marketing.
It's so frustrating getting clear, tangible info.
I feel like anyone explaining stripe to a friend who really needed actual info would never explain it the way stripe marketing (docs) explain things.
Which is always vague and never commital. There's also a lot of errors in the marketing docs too. Which is also frustrating. 1.5 hours into my journey this morning, and I'm no closer to simply getting an account started. And to be completely accurate, I tried to start it a day ago but Stripe channels were all closed.
Anyway, I'll go and do some googleing with -stripe.com and hopefully that gets some clearer info. Otherwise ChatGPT lol.
that's the weekend and we don't staff the Discord channel on the weekend unfortunately
Yup ๐๐
if you have specific questions regarding certain parts, we'd be happy to help.
To answer the question about dispute fees - It varies by region, if you access this page (and make sure it's for your country) https://stripe.com/pricing#faqs, you can do a search for dispute and the amount for your region should be listed there
I mean, I just listed several specific questions!
"we'd be happy to help" - who? Broken chat forms, incorrect docs, vague links to docs as an excuse not to answer in specifics.
I shake my head.
I want Patrick Collison to do a live stream of him making an application trying to use stripe. He'll have no freaking clue. Like undercover CEO where they learn what their customers go through
