we have been in this situation before with Stripe Connect when we were advised we need to use Checkout or Element but in the end it was confirmed to us we can still use Connect with our custom hosted paypage platform

so just wondering whether it's similar with Direct Debit

if I'm not mistaken the Checkout flow is used to collect the customer bank details and the rest (Payment Intent, etc.) is BAU

Connect is irrelevant here. As explained, if you wish to collect BACS payments you'll need to use a Stripe payment UI. Be that Checkout or Payment Element

I understand Connect is irrelevant here but used that as an example for when in the past we tried to implement Connect and we were pushed onto a different path of implementation than what we needed

I'm not sure what else you want me to say. You can't offer BACS DD payments unles using Checkout or the Payment Element

we are not a direct Stripe customer but a platform where our services are (also) used by Stripe customers
