If you're going to do a payment that close to the setup though, you could consider using a Payment Intent with setup_future_usage set to off_session. That would allow you to set the Payment Method up for future usage and process a payment simultaneously.

If it's unclear how long it will be between setup and payment, then the approach you described is likely a better fit.
