Yes, we saw that, but that assumes that payment info has already been added, right?

We also tried this in a test environment. We set the free trial to 1 day on a test account about 30 minutes ago but haven't received an email yet

Yes Test mode doesn't send email

I guess you can try in Live mode. As you don't provide any payment info, it should be fine to test
