Yeah I don't think there is an option to force checking this by default. Will forward your feedback

In the mean time, if you want to focus more on Link, you can consider implement the separated Link Authentication Element

It actually is a Link Authentication element at the top (email) and Payment element at the bottom.

Yes

If it is an existing email address in Link, it will show the login code at the Link Authentication element. Otherwise it shows the Link phone number entry + sms code entry at the bottom of the Payment element.

But yes we don't have an option to enable by default. It is an UX decision optimized for conversion rate
