as far as I recall, no, it's not immediate. There's a step before where the mandate has to be created, and it's only after that happens that the debit is initiated and the charge becomes pending

I don't think the payment_intent.processing event happens until that same time

unfortunately the PaymentIntent stays in this weird limbo where it's status:requires_confirmation even after confirming, that's what I recall from the last time I looked at this
