Let's back up for a second - when your customer buys a subscription off the website, do you currently use stripe at all for that?

No we currently don't offer any subscriptions but we are looking into how we can.

But how do you currently accept payments? Do you use stripe for that?

#

Like do you accept payment at all currently, or are you building an entirely new integration?

signal rock

Yes for normal product purchases we use stripe

Gotcha - then I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use stripe w/ subscriptions. Are you currently using a plugin, or are you building an integration yourself?

We're currently using GoDaddy's website building templates not WordPress or any form of custom website.
Talking with GoDaddy tech support they claim that we cannot add a stripe subscription plug-in to our template.

Ah, so the issue is with the plugin you're using - not with Stripe

#

If you were integration with Stripe directly there'd be not problems with adding on Subscriptions, but if it's a limitation of the third-party you're using then I can't really help there

We are using a stripe supported shopping cart on a go daddy web builder template. Since we are using stripe to support our shopping cart can we automatically use stripes subscription capability or is stripes subscription capability a separate "plug in"?

Let me clarify - you're using a plugin that currently has implemented specifics parts of stripe's functionality. It is up to that plugin to decide whether or not to support subscriptions. If you want to us Subscription you'll either need to build this yourself or look into an alternative plugin that will support it

Ok I think I've got it. The template we are using doesn't have any plug in availability. The template only gives us the option to choose what company supports the shopping cart.

So next question, can we use stripe dashboard exclusively to host and bill reoccurring payments for subscriptions?

Ok. I will take a look at this in depth.
but to make sure I understand the general steps ...

  1. Our website would have a product that is listed as a subscription on the sites store.
  2. customer buys that product and makes the first payment via the sites store's shopping cart... Which is supported via stripe.
  3. we then go on to our stripe accounts dashboard and set up following subscription payments by capturing that customers initial payment information.

That would be the idea, but you need to test this out fully in test mode and talk with the plugin you use and see if they actually save payment methods to be used in the future.

#

Really, it would be MUCH better for you to find a new plugin that would actually enable you to charge for subscriptions directly

finding a new plug in would be great. Current ones customer service is going down the drain!

Would you recommend Shopify?

It's really up to you to do this research and find what works for you - we can't provide specific recommendations
