aaah, so essentially I want to use connect so I can make api calls on my end users behalf, so I woudn't know if they're using manual or not

It also depends on the funds flow. For example if you are using Destination Charge, your Connected Account only see the "later" part of the fund flow, when the main transaction sits on your Stripe Account

I would recommend testing out in Test mode, using the Balance Transaction API suggested in above article
