That really isn't enough information to tell if it's custom connect or not
what are you really trying to do?
Just exploring use cases for inspiration.
Gotcha - yeah there isn't really anything specific in that text that points to it being custom connect. It could be custom, it could be express, etc, it's really hard to tell just from that text
Well the fields ask for personal and banking details directly.
It's still hard to tell - with any of the connect account types you're allowed to prefill information so it won't be asked for again during onboarding
Oh I see so even with Standard -- when you hit submit on this kind of form, it can pre-fill the fields seen in the connect.stripe.com onboarding flow? Just slap next, next, next and next?
Yeah we talk about that in our docs here https://stripe.com/docs/connect/standard-accounts#create-account
Alright and if I onboard a user with Standard and take an application fee on each payment, can they easily unlink their account from the platform? As to save on fees when they discover Stripe's is lower...
It depends on the kind of standard accounts you're working with - if you're working with standard accounts that are controlled by the platform then they can't disconnect on their own (you, as the platform would have to disconnect them)
what do you mean by standard accounts controlled by the platform?
I understand "Standard" users have complete control w/ their email & password...
im just wondering how you prevent the unlink, or even create a Standard account "controlled by the platform"... in the dash you can only control payout schedules seems like.
I believe new Standard accounts that are created today should be CBSP by default - you'd only run into this issue if you also allowed existing accounts to connect to you through oauth
this is an example of what I DON'T want: #979508720277020712 message
^^previous talk
Yeah I'm pretty sure that will ONLY be an issue if you have connected accounts that are not controlled by your platform. If they are controlled by your platform it's a much harder process to actually disconnect from your platform (they'd actually have to write in to stripe support if they want their account converted to a full stripe account)
To clarify, liability for disputes and fraud is still on the user?
and these aren't express/custom "controlled by the platform"?
Yes, liability for disputes and fraud shoudl still be with the connected account
and no, these are not the same as express/custom accounts
No liability on me, the platform? as long as the service isn't abusive of course, and gives users basic control of their accounts by API, like stopping recurring invoices?
Honestly I can speak a bit to liability, but it sounds like you want specifics (which I'd recommend checking in with support https://support.stripe.com/contact for). I don't think you have absolutely no liability, but I don't really know where that line is drawn
Obviously no 'zero liability' on me... but the user has enough freedom to control their account for the service to not be abusive.
Unfortunately we can't really speak to specifics on liability, you'd have to clarify your concerns with your own legal team and/or share specific examples and work with our support team on that.
I'll take that into consideration. Thanks.
Lastly, can these platform-controlled Standard accounts set contact preferences? For example a payout be branded the platform as sender... or not send some types of emails at all?
obv. I can do that with webhooks but I have no control over what Stripe does.
There's some support for co-branding the connected accounts: https://stripe.com/docs/connect/platform-controls-for-standard-accounts#co-brand-your-connected-account-experience
Depends with emails yo mena, but most you won't be able to disable as something the connected account can choose in their own settings. If you want fine control over the account experience, custom gives you complete control but this also completely changes the account relationship and liability questions.
I'm talking about Profile > Communication Preferences. Wondering what control I have with platform-controlled Standard.
No control, as far as I am aware
OK thanks for all the heads up.
