Hello! The Setup Intent does validate the card when confirmed, but that doesn't mean the card will work later. Things can and do change between those two actions.
so the incorrect card number is due to the card got updated during the trial period? The card updated should've catch that right?
No, not always. Some card issuers don't participate in card updates. Other times there is no new card number; the card may be lost or stolen, the account may have been closed, etc.

Not always. We relay what the card issuer tells us, and they don't always behave consistently.
For example, incorrect_number is what some card issuers use to indicate that account no longer exists.
