Hi there ๐Ÿ‘‹ jumping in as my teammate needs to step away soon. Offhand I'm not sure what you have in mind is possible, unless you suppress all of our email functionality and replace it with your own where you have more control over which Invoices send out emails.

@plain stone Thanks! Would that, for example, be turning off the account's setting so it does not automatically send invoice emails, then using webhooks to listen for the appropriate event and then using the send_invoice method to have Stripe send the email? Per my use case above, that would be by default NOT sending the invoice email (good for the 1% of cases) and use webhooks to send invoice emails when we want (the 99% of cases)?

No, my thought was suppressing our email functionality entirely by disabling the setting in your account, and then building your own service to generate/send emails to your customers when appropriate. My team primarily focuses on working with our API so I'm not as familiar with the prebuilt email functionality, but my understanding is that if you turn off the setting to send an email for finalized Invoices then we don't send any emails for those (though I may be mistaken).

Is there someone you could confirm this with? My understanding was the send_invoice would send an email even if the automatic email setting is turned off, and that's an important thing to know for our project. Thank you!

I believe our Support team is going to be the most knowledgable group regarding those email features, and would recommend confirming with them:
