Yes, you can use Checkout's custom fields functionality for this https://stripe.com/docs/payments/checkout/custom-fields
okay that's awesome. I'll have a quick read and check back with you if you're comfortable keeping this open for a few mins?
Okay, that seems to fit the needs. The 200 character limit could pose a problem potentially (perhaps a suggestion for a textarea type with a higher limit?)
There's no mention on the page (unless I'm going senile!) of whether the custom fields are displayed in the dashboard (I'm hoping my client can handle their orders via the stripe dashboard in the short term until I get all the webhooks etc setup) and whether they will show up in the emails to seller/customer?
Yes that would be a feature request for a limit longer than 200, I can put that in
And good question on the dashboard angle. I will check on that and get back to you
you're a star ๐
for a case on the 200 limit something like "My house is hard to find, it's behind the church and the entrance is on the left. Go past the arch and it's the 3rd driveway on the right. Ring the bell and wait, I'm disabled and so slow to get to the door" or some random bumpf like that ๐
would you put in the feature request or is there some form I should fill in?
I can put it in myself. And yes definitely a good use case for longer input
Server has been a bit too busy to check in to the dashboard part but I should get a chance to look soon
If you have a minute you can try just doing a Checkout Session like this in test mode and looking at the dashboard, this functionality will work the same in test mode
I know I say this every time but having spent years arguing with a certain other company with a large market share... you guys are AMAZING. Talking to a human who knows what I'm talking about. Gets me every time ๐
okay, I'm kinda jury-rigged on a local server right now but just completing the payment should create the order so I'll give it a go.
yep, the custom fields show up in the dashboard!
Awesome thanks for testing! And thanks for the kind words, will pass them on to the rest of the team as well
one last quick question
I can see the receipt sent to the customer
is there a way to preview the email send to the seller?
I know the dashboard can preview a general receipt and send out test mode receipts. Can figure that out if that is what you are looking for. Otherwise for previewing individual receipts I am less sure but can also look in to that
ah right, so I'm developing the site for someone. I so I can preview the receipt sent to the buyer but can't see a way to see the email that would be sent out to the seller. Just looking to see what information is in it. They can get the info off the dashboard but if they can run 90% off emails alone then I know they will be happier ๐
or are the emails the same with different wording?
Gotcha, so on that payment page there should be a "Receipt history" section where you can preview the receipt or send it to an email
Do you see that section on your page?
yep, but thats the email sent to the buyer right?
Correct, I was more thinking you could send it in test mode if you wanted to see the info on it. For live mode I assume previewing it would be sufficient here? Or was that not quite your ask
ah right. I wanted to see the email the seller would receive when a payment is made, to see if it had the products and shipping info on it or just "you've made a sale, go to the dashboard" sort of thing
Oh I see. I actually was not aware that we sent emails like that. For that I think our support team would be more knowledgable, if you reach out to them they should be able to help you here https://support.stripe.com/?contact=true

okay thanks. worst case it's all in the dashboard.
I deal with some "unique" people who want to sell online and I know the questions I'll get ๐
