The Checkout Session doesn't know about the Payment Method associated with that customer so it's going to ask for the required information anyway.

Why would not it know about it? 🤔

Before I ask for payment, I check in the dashboard the customer payment method and this is what I see

Seems like the canadian bank account is linked, verified, and set as a default payment method.

It also goes against what is explained here: https://stripe.com/docs/payments/acss-debit/set-up-payment

collect payment method details in advance, with the final amount or payment date determined later. This is useful for:

Saving payment methods to a wallet to streamline future purchases

The Payment Intent does not work. Please see first picture attached

I get this message when I try to activate the ACSS Debit on our Stripe account

The Payment Intent would work just fine, this says that we cannot collect ACSS information using the Payment Element.

Once you have already created the Payment Method you don't need to use the Payment Element though

Oh I see! Once I collected the payment method and I have the mandate ID + payment ID I can just charge the user directly from the backend.
Just make them click a button to trigger the action
