i have used the link to get started with stri.pe/terminal but the link takes me to the stripe page which we have an account with but its asking to set up coding for payments etc that i am not savy with

If you're looking to accept in-person payments with Terminal then there is some development work associated that (i.e. you need to build a PoS that communicates with the reader to create payments and collect card details).

You'd first determine on which platform you're going to build your PoS (web, mobile, etc) then you'd use our existing Termianl SDKs to integrate payment flows into your application.

You're going to need some development experience to integrate with Terminal. There's no out of the box solution like there is for web payments.
