Hello! In a case like this I believe you would need to have the previous owners remove the custom domain from their Stripe account. Is that a possibility?
I'm looking into who actually was in control of the previous stripe account, but I'm not certain whether I'll be able to contact that person or well. They'll feel any obligation to actually do something about this problem, as we've already paid for the domain and they figured they're done with the transaction
DNS based domain validation is not a new concept though. If you let us know what DNS records we should add, we can certainly prove our ownership of the domain. So arguably there should be a process by which the previously configured custom domains on the other account should expire simply by removal of the previous DNS text records that validated them. Is that not accurate?
That's accurate, but I don't think what you're describing is possible for a domain where ownership has already been verified on a different Stripe account. I recommend contacting Stripe support so they can help you with next steps: https://support.stripe.com/contact/email
