Ok, for the sake of proving an answer to my connected account client. I would like to clarify. You mentioned that only the IBAN format is validated, not actual eligibility of the IBAN as a source for in the SEPA network. In the case that an IBAN is used that neither we or Stripe can validate its eligibility, are we on the hook for a dispute?
I am not worried in particular about a fraud scenario here, a legit customer could be unaware and input invalid IBAN there.
Yes if you attempt to charge an IBAN and the bank then disputes that charge, you are on the hook for that dispute. If you want to perform your own validation for SEPA Debit then you would want to collect the IBAN details yourself and not using a Stripe hosted form like Payment Element.
Does stripe at least checks if the IBAN is from a country with SEPA? Instead of an IBAN from brazil for example?
