AFAIK, no. Setup Intents are optimised to always request authentication to enable the possibility of frictionless MIT payments

Nice, thanks. What about "paymentIntent" with "setup_future_usage : off_session" ? It is also for setting up the card for future usage.

Yep, exactly the same optimisations are performed in that scenario as they are for an off_session Setup Intent
