By using Checkout Session under setup mode, the card will go through card validations, ensuring that the card is not a bad card.

In subscription mode, the card will only be saved and go through validation with card issuer at the point when the subscription starts to get charged, i.e. after trial ends

Please note that the card validation only checks the validity of the card. There are still chances where the card is declined due to other reasons after card validations such as insufficient funds in the card
