I believe that happened because the initial payment was zero, but ultimately we should have validation on the front-end. I'm going to surface this to the product team and see if they can take a look

Got you. We tried to replicate this and actually succeed to do it 4 times. I can provide you with all checkout session ids.

In some cases, we did get an error on the front end that you can NOT use a test card..

We are a bit concerned as in the first case a real customer put in a test card and got our service for free

Yeah, definitely. Mostly we want to see the different API calls that are being made along with what the UI shows when you enter a known test card.

Also, what seemed to be the difference between Checkout Sessions that allowed test cards, and Checkout Sessions that didn't?

I have just replicated the issue:
Here is the checkout session id:

I open the checkout page around 5 times. on the first 4 times i got the error in the UI of "Your card was declined. Your request was in live mode, but used a known test card."

But on the fifth time i success to create a subscription with 4242-4242-4242-4242
I also used an incognito mode in the browser if that helps

Okay, we're looking into it as that definitely should not be happening. For what it's worth, this appears to only work on trialing Subscriptions, so the customer may be getting a free trial, but the actual payment should fail when it is attempted at the end of the trial.

Can you write into support and let them know you were working with us here on Discord? This will create a thread for us to update you on where we're at as we start to tackle the bug fix.
