You should be able to do this both in the Dashboard and the API. In the API you would pass promotion_code: "" on the Update Subscription API: https://stripe.com/docs/api/subscriptions/update#update_subscription-promotion_code

I just tried and the option is right there on the Update view

You update the Subscription and right below default tax you have the coupon/promotion code/discount and can remove it right?
