So this mostly depends on whether you use Stripe Checkout or not

With Checkout you can't skip it completely

So yes, you can just create a Customer and a trial Subscription without redirecting to Checkout

Got it. Yeah, in this case they'd be signing up for an account w/ us and, in the process, we'd silently sign them up for a trial sub.

If and when they want to upgrade, they'd use the Portal + Checkout to upgrade their sub.

This was part of thinking through "When in a user's life cycle do they get a subscription?".

So yep, creating one initially on trial is what you want

And you just use the Subscription API endpoint directly
