Hi 👋 I believe there may be a process for migrating Custom Connected Accounts to Express Custom Accounts, but it's not a topic we're familiar with in this forum. I would suggest reaching out to our support team regarding that portion of the question:

Custom and Express accounts have come more in alignment with regards to the functionality that is available (a good example is the addition of Hosted Onboarding for Custom Accounts), but an easy way to think about it is that you will have more control when working with Custom accounts.
Switching to Express accounts would allow you to offer the Express dashboard to your users:
https://stripe.com/docs/connect/express-dashboard
But Express and Custom accounts are both recommended to be used with the same charge structures, so they're pretty similar from that perspective.
Hmmm ok. We wouldn't want to enable the Express dashboard for users, we still want to control most of the experience on our side (in terms of displaying earnings, payout history, account balance, etc.)
But we do want to use Connect Onboarding for identity verification and adding/modifying external accounts. Mainly don't want to deal with complexities of adding bank accounts for all countries.
Is that possible? I imagine if we don't provide a link for the users to redirect to the Express dashboard most of them wouldn't know about it. But could users still navigate to Express dashboard directly? Or could we disable dashboard entirely?
Yes, users can self-serve access to the Express dashboard (discussed in the self-serve access of the linked document).
Additionally, Hosted Onboarding can be used to collect bank account details for Custom accounts, once enabled via the Stripe dashboard:
https://dashboard.stripe.com/test/settings/connect/custom
Sign in to the Stripe Dashboard to manage business payments and operations in your account. Manage payments and refunds, respond to disputes and more.
Ok thank you! The issue with Hosted Onboarding for Custom accounts is that it doesn't support US Debit Cards which is important for us

Gotcha, I just ran through testing creating a Custom account and an Account Link for it in my test account where I allow Custom onboarding to collect external account information. I confirmed it did not display fields for collecting debit card details.
But I do see the debit card option displayed when using an Express account. I'll be sure to capture your feedback that it would be beneficial for the Custom onboarding flow to also collect debit card details.
Thank you!!
I also just realized something interesting. Even for "custom" accounts it looks like you can navigate to https://connect.stripe.com/express_login and login to them and see the Express dashboard? Is that expected? Appears that there's no way to disable the dashboard?
I'm not certain off-hand whether that is expected. I would suggest following up with our Support team regarding that matter as well, as it's getting away from our area of expertise (working with and answering questions about our API).
