That's possible. There are a couple of ways to do this, but I think the simplest would be to create a Subscription that has a trial for the "unused" time between December 2023 and January 2024.

Would that make an invoice in December?

That would make an Invoice in January for the amount. Are you trying to set it up so that an Invoice is created in December instead?

So yeah, I think in this case you could create Subscription Schedules for each phase.

Phase 1 [December 2022]: accept payment for the subscription
Phase 2 [December 2022 to January 2023]: use a Price for $0 to represent the time between when the payment was created and when the subscription starts
Phase 3 [January 2023 to January 2024]: use a $0 Price to represent the full paid year
Phase 4 [January 2024 onward]: create a phase for the full amount of the Subscription for the year that auto-renews each year for the same amount
