1/ Yes using send invoice it would ... send the invoice email, not charge. Where are you previewing this, exactly?
2/ I would expect so. If you have a real email that doesn't appear as you expect, please share the details of this.
3/ Not as far I am aware - you can manually send the actual invoice email from the dashboard but I don't believe the renewal email has this option

For 2) I may have an idea why. "Send email about upcoming renewals is under "Prevent failed payments" heading, which seems odd...

So for Customer Emails under "Manage invoices sent to customers" in /settings/billing/automatic, is there not a preview for those emails?
