To clarify, are you trying to test the flow with a successful card setup, but a failure at the time of payment?
I was but when going through the process, it looks like the insufficient funds error can be detected at the card creation.
That's just an error that test card always returns
Using this test card 4000000000009995 I get the error after calling "Create a card" but nothing is actually charged.
You can't know about insufficient funds until payment is actually attempted
To test the attach success but payment failure flow in test mode, you can use 4000000000000341
Attaching this card to a Customer object succeeds, but attempts to charge the customer fail.
Yes, I have seen that one and used it before. I guess I was just wondering if there was a better way as our failed payments has jumped up to almost 40% recently.
Does stripe have any recommendations for this? Or data regarding what we should expect is an appropriate amount of failed transactions?
There's isn't any general data on this, it depends on your customers, but for questions about real customer card declines i'd suggest working with our support team to investigate for you to determine if there is any problem
