are you referring to this flow?
https://stripe.com/docs/payments/place-a-hold-on-a-payment-method

If so, the $100 are just a hold (might be taken out of customer's available balance depending on the bank), which stays pending until you capture OR the authorization window expires.

if you capture only $50 then that's the amount that will be charged when charge succeeds.
