we recently started offering subscription services and ran out of capacity to provide services for the month so our admins were putting a people on free trials until we were able to provide said services however when they were doing it they accidentally prorated the trial and instead of charging the customer the full price at the end of the free trial its only gonna charge a couple cents. is there a way to switch this to not have the trials prorated for trials that already are
Can you provide an example of a Subscription where you saw this behavior?
Thank you, pulling that up.
Alright, I think I see what is happening here.
The Subscription is trying to charge the full price at the beginning of the next billing period when the trial ends, as that is the standard behavior for them.
The reason the next Invoice is showing that it will only charge a few cents, is because the change to move the Subscription into a trial period resulted in a prorated invoice being generated:
Request: https://admin.corp.stripe.com/iar/req_aIZrHNYAK6H9tj
Invoice: https://dashboard.stripe.com/invoices/in_1MK6ViBPM36OC3gXQlno4Jp0
That new Invoice had a negative amount due since it was largely made up of a proration for the period that the Customer had already been billed for. That negative Invoice's amount got applied to the Customer's balance so it would be used on to help pay for the next Invoice.
https://stripe.com/docs/billing/customer/balance
is there any way to change that back to not being prorated
Was the Customer's original payment refunded? (based on what I'm seeing it doesn't look like it was)
If it wasn't, then I get the impression that you wouldn't want to charge your Customer the full price for this next period as they've already paid that for the trial period.
No, that update cannot be modified now that it has been made.
