The test mode toggle seen in the Stripe dashboard does not control the mode that your account is operating in, it only controls whether the Stripe dashboard will show you live mode data or test mode data.
The API key that is used when making requests to the Stripe API controls what mode the requests will be made in. This allows your account to function in live mode and test mode simultaneously.
