Hi 👋 just to make sure we're aligned, are you referring to the receipts that can automatically be sent to customers after a successful payment, or are you specifically referring to our Invoices and the email settings that are available for them?

I'm referring to the receipts that can automatically be sent to customers after a successful payment

#

now that I'm looking at it again, I see that there are 2 settings - one "subscriptions and email" and the other "customer emails". if I only select to send emails in the subscription settings, billing the same customer on something other then subscription should not send him an email. is that correct?

Gotcha, no, those cannot be selectively enabled. The feature that automatically generates and sends those receipts is either on for your entire account, or off for the entire account.

The dashboard page specific to subscriptions and emails does list all of the email settings that are available specifically for Stripe Billing features (Subscriptions, Invoices, etc), but I'm not seeing an "email on successful payment" setting there. Those settings are instead focused around avoiding failing recurring payments.

this one is under subscriptions and emails

That is a good option!

so will this send me an invoice about the subscription without sending every customer every invoice?

That will email every Invoice that we create to the associated Customer. Invoices are different from our receipts though, they are not generated for all payments and are typically involved with Subscriptions.

It is possible to create what we refer to as one-off Invoices which are not associated with a Subscription, the setting that you showed above will also send emails for those. So if you're using Invoices for things other than Subscriptions, this may not do what you're hoping, but if you're only using Invoices with Subscriptions then I believe this setting does what you want.
