it's generally not recommended to have such a gap like that(anything over a year is going to have a big chance of declines or chargebacks). So as far as I know we don't allow creating subscriptions with Prices with more than a year
what would be the best approach?
our customers are paying a 1 time fee for a contract that lasts 6, 12, 24 or 36 months. And then we want to trigger a subscription. But we want to make it as smooth as possible. So that they dont have to enter their card again or anything like that
I would not offer a 24 or 36 month option
if you do need to, you will need to write into support to ask for that to be enabled on your account since by default you can't create Prices that recur on a basis longer than a year, you need to get that enabled on your account and recognise the risks
but we are doing this right now
not sure what you mean?
to be clear, it's restricted because there's a high chance of declines and chargebacks. Declines — my own credit card personally, expires next year. So if I pay you today, you can't charge me seamlessly next year since my card will be expired. Customers also move bank and cancel accounts/cards and stuff, 2 years is a long time. Chargebacks — if I randomly see a charge on my bank statement from a business I interact with 2 years ago, I'm likely to think that might be fraud or I forgot about ever setting that up, and I might dispute that with my bank. So in general we'd encourage you not to set up your business's payments in this way and stick to annual/monthly payments where possible.
i understand, but this is an internet subscription
so, they are paying for the fiber installation and then a subscription for the service
any idea why becs is not enable for invoices in the UK=
?
Hi! I'm taking over this thread.
so, they are paying for the fiber installation and then a subscription for the service
Like my collegue said, we don't recommend doing this. But if you really need subscription longer than 12 months, then you need to contact Stripe support to see if you can get access: https://support.stripe.com/contact
any idea why becs is not enable for invoices in the UK=
Based on this page, customers need to be located in Australia to use becs https://stripe.com/docs/payments/au-becs-debit
You can check this page to see which payment method are supported for each feature https://stripe.com/docs/payments/payment-methods/integration-options#payment-method-product-support
And we can see that bacs_debit doesn't work with Invoices (regardless of the customer's country)
so, the only option is payment links?
What do you mean? What are you trying to achieve?
sending an invoice to a customer in the UK. I want them to be able to pay with their bank details
they can either pay a one time fee and then the subscription or pay directly as a subscription
the main problem that we are having at the moment with our current payment method is that a lot of the customers churn at the end of the 1 time payment
so we want to have a smooth transition between the end of the contract and the beginning of the subscription
sending an invoice to a customer in the UK. I want them to be able to pay with their bank details
is this part of a subscription, or a one time invoice?
we have both alternatives
1 time payment or subscription
they decide the payment method when they signed the contract
On the link I shared you can see bacs_debit works for subscriptions.
as soon as they signed, we get all the details and pass all the information to Zapier
so, subscriptions are not invoices
a subscription will create invoices.
