there's unfortunately not much you can do there I think, the subscription states don't work well with delayed payment methods like SEPA Debit. Not sure what I can suggest beyond only deactivating the subscription on your side if an incoice.payment_failed happens or the subscription cancels on Stripe's side, don't deactivate just based on the status becoming past_due.
