If we perform automatic payouts less frequently, like once a week, then would that give some more buffer time for funds to accumulate to allow these to go through?

it might but it could still fail at certain time like the day before a Payout. Really this is just not the way to do things like this. You need to switch to manual Payouts and build up a balance in that case

got it... one issue with manual payouts is that doesn't end up showing all the balance transactions that are part of each payout

is there some kind of workaround where we can have an account balance transaction that reserves some money aside from an automatic payout?

got it, so specifying the source transaction is just meant more for simple scenarios where invoices don't go negative
