I think that was the issue though. If I look at the most recent CustomerPortal Sessions you create, for customers with active subscriptions, they have the update option.
Just to clarify, you can't create a session with update_subscription for a customer with cancelled subscription?

That's unfortunate though, if a customer with cancelled subscription wants to get another subscription how can he do this with the customer portal ?
they can't; you'd start a new subscription for them by .e.g sending them to a new CheckoutSession, the portal is only for managing existing subscriptions
