i don't have a request id at the moment. we are in the planning phase right now so i was more so just wondering if this is something stripe is capable of doing

or would i need to track the trials in our own database to prevent duplicate trials per customer

You'd likely want to track this on your end. Alternatively, you can also provide a coupon to use once: https://stripe.com/docs/api/coupons/create#create_coupon-duration.
