Good question. Checking in to whether this is possible in prod
Hey I apologize but I am having trouble finding good info on whether we support this as a business case. If you reach out to our support team, they should be able to speak to whether you can have a German Platform and Canadian connected account here https://support.stripe.com/?contact=true
Find help and support for Stripe. Our support center provides answers on all types of situations, including account information, charges and refunds, and subscriptions information. Get your questions answered and find international support for Stripe.
I see
is this same with US? or you're sure that US-accounts cannot connect with German platforms?
I thought that only US accounts could really work as a platform this way but I may be mistaken if you are able to create connected accounts that can be transferred to. Test mode should have the same behavior as live here so I think I am thinking of the wrong restrictions here https://stripe.com/docs/connect/cross-border-payouts
im just testing with US as we speak, one moment plz
it keeps giving me this on test data even tho im selecting from the given options
Is this for a Standard Connect account?
I think that those may not allow fake addresses. Express and Custom accounts allow test data, but Standard accounts can be used as normal Stripe accounts so their requirements are stricter
Oh good to know
and yes...same behavior with US too
can u give me any country for which you are 100% sure that transfers are not allowed?
im gonna try with Brazil
ok apparently brazil doesnt have transfers + card_payments at all
any country where card_payments is possible but transfers not?
I'm trying to create a use-case where i do direct charge on the countries where transfers is not available, otherwise do a destination charge
Good question. Looking in to whether there is a good way to test this
I'm having trouble finding this but I did find info that we discourage using Direct charges on Express accounts. If you can't make destination charges to accounts in a certain country, the recommended path would be to have a platform account in that country that can pay out there.
Direct charges can cause issues with traceability on your side and can make it especially painful to deal with things like disputes and refunds
if USA and Canada are working on live keys too with transfers capability, i won't need direct charges at all
coz most of the traffic is from US/Canada/UK/EU
on test keys they are working, so i guess i'll try to onboard few people from US/Canada on live keys to test it
Awesome! Let us know if you run in to any other questions in your testing
Alright
one more question:
if a country has transfers capability, Separate Charge & Transfer as well as Destination Charge both will work with it, correct?
I don't understand your question. Can you rephrase?
So we have three types of charges:
- Direct
- Destination
- Separate Charge & Transfer
I'm assuming Separate Charge & Transfer is same as Destination except that I'll have to do the transfer myself instead of Stripe doing it automatically?
Correct.
Is there more to that question? I want to make sure I'm answering to the best of my ability
so the question is: if a connected account's country is supported for Destination charge, will it automatically be supported for Separate Charge and Transfer too?
(bcz im assuming both needs transfers capability in the end)
No. There are some cases where one is supported and not the other, though I'm not sure what countries specifically have those constraints.
ah i see. ok cool
Canadian connect account worked with German platform!! 🥳
now need to see US one too! 🤞
ok never,mind
it said it has transfers capability
but
when i tried to pay
using Checkout Session
I got this:
I read about on_behalf_of but it means basically that it will convert the charge to direct charge
