We are looking to integrate with Stripe and use your implementation of iDEAL for offline re-billing of subscriptions and online purchases of products. 1) For subscriptions setup for a customer there is an industry norm to charge 1 cent to the bank and use the IBAN in the response to set up a recurring direct debit mandate and charge the customer monthly. This normally requires the merchant to have a Dutch Bank account and some other fin tech process in place. From reading your documents it looks like we only need to send you the value we want to re-bill and that the bank to bank handling is managed by stripe. Is this correct ? Are the steps in the spec that straight forward? 2) if the above is correct, then for these offline purchase, i assume we do not need to auth the customer again , through the ideal process, seeing as its offline ? and 3) again, based on my read of the document this setup can be used for both re-billing and online purchases - and in the latter , we should be able to "fake" valuting ideal as a saved payment method and just send you a variable price inline ? and 4) if thats correct, does that trigger a 2 step auth flow ?
Mostly that is correct
The real way this works is that for recurring payments using iDEAL as the initial presentment PaymentMethod we create a SEPA Debit PaymentMethod behind the scenes to be used for those "offline" payments.
But yeah, we handle the nuance for you and you just have to make sure you charge the correct PaymentMethod ID
excelle nt
And are we able to use this process to then charge variable amounts for online purchases? Effectively vaulting/saving the method ?
Yes you can charge the saved SEPA Debit PaymentMethod for variable amounts. You will just want to ensure that your customer knows that they will be charged in the future so they don't dispute these charges
Ive asked my architect to join this chat - hell help with a bit more of the technical context

So to echo back -1) Stripe handles the bank to bank interaction , 2) we can use stripe for recurring ideal payments and 3) we can offer ideal as a regular payment method and 4) we can "save" ideal on our customers account and they can inline while on the checkout use it for repeat purchases without needed to re auth?
my arch will join in a few mins
Yep
To be clear, iDEAL would only be used for the initial one-time payment and set up here
Then you will have a SEPA Debit PaymentMethod that you charge for any recurring payments or return payments (without the customer needing to re-auth)
great
up to 14 business days -- but yes i was asking average
