Thanks. The problem is that when we create an account in WP that didn't originate with a Stripe payment event, sometimes people will try to update payment information on their own through the Stripe payment portal. When they do, it creates a second concurrent record in Stripe but does not update the account in WP.
As a result, that payment does nothing when it comes to updating the relevant dates and other values in their Wordpress account that manage their access to our content.
We have to go in manually and change the records in the Wordpress account to restore their access or preserve it depending on whether we catch this on time or too late. What steps can we take to prevent ourselves from needing to crack the record open and fix it by hand?
Okay, there is a lot of ambiguous terminology there. Can you disambiguate a couple of terms? Specifically:
- "Stripe payment event" which event specifically? There are many events and I'm not sure what is actually happening when an account is created
- "Stripe payment portal" could mean a myriad of different things (e.g. Payment Element, Stripe Dashboard, 3rd party payment plug-in, etc.)
- "when we create an account" what does "account" mean here? A Stripe account? Stripe Connect account? An account on your website that has nothing to do with Stripe?
Thanks. From what I've been told, essentially people follow a link we provide to a website we run through Wordpress, and they provide credit card information via an element I'm not familiar with but will look up (and can continue this conversation via email if it will take too much time to do this on the chat).
WooCommerce Stripe Subscription Payment Gateway is the plugin we use in WP.
Ah, okay. Yeah, we would definitely need some more context and some explicit definitions in order to assist. The scenario you described above could have many different solutions and we don't want to accidentally create a false-start in the wrong direction for you.
Additionally, we don't know the details of specific WP plug-ins, so you would need to be able to define all the above requested terminology and be prepared to answer questions about how the plug-in currently interacts with Stripe
Okay. If you can provide me with a list of any additional terminology I need to be able to provide, I can ask engineering for more details to follow up with you later.
I would recommend having the engineers themselves present for this chat. This server is focused on developers and API integrations, and the only way we can keep it productive is if we are talking to the people actually doing the coding.
If that is not possible, I would recommend reaching out to our support folks and starting an email thread: https://support.stripe.com/contact/email

It probably won't be, so I'll do the latter. Thank you.
