is this a supported use case of the subscriptions? I've looked into trials (ie. set a trial for a large amount of time, and just update the subscription to end the trial after we ship)

charge for the product up front but not the subscription itself

Okay so yeah, sounds like you want to use a one-off invoice item for the initial charge plus a trial period until shipping. Then end the trial and start charging

okay got it, so using a trial period is preferred over doing the payment method = send invoice, or something

(I don't really want an invoice to send to customer)

and then when we actually ship (less than a year) then end it
