So I just archived a price in the dashboard, and this message appeared that should answer your question:
This price can’t be added to new invoices, subscriptions, or payment links. Any existing subscriptions remain active until canceled.

actually, how does that work. If the price cant be added to new invoices - how can the existing subscription stay active with the old price?
You can't create one-off invoice with an archived price. But existing subscription will still be able to create invoice for that price.
