Can you explain why you would need to refund more than a single charge?

Why they need to be refunded more than the charged amount?
I work for a hotel/travel package company and we offer affordable monthly payment plans for our users. One of the events that we had last weekend got canceled due to bad weather, and those users need to be refunded the amount of their ticket for this event. The ticket(s) cost more than the amount charged per paid installment

Okay so good new and bad news. You can refund more than the amount of a single charge. But you need to spread it out among the related charges.

We simply do not allow a refund on a charge to exceed the amount of that charge

I was hoping to avoid that
There's no way to like.. aggregate the charges for the user into one charge id and refund that way?
3 different charge ids, each for $100
and having a master charge id of the $300?
