It looks like the product team suggested replacing the old Verifone P400, since updates/fixes to this one are a bit more siloed and infrequent.
We don't sell the Verifone P400s anymore for this reason, but the newer readers are updated more frequently and have better support

Would Stripe replace it for free since it's a hardware issue? Or am I expected to purchase a new Wise POS reader?
That part I'm not sure of. Our support folks have a workflow for replacing readers, so I would reach out to them and see if they can send you one: https://support.stripe.com/contact/email
