I believe you can do a hard-reset by using a paper clip to press the reset button near the USB connector: https://d37ugbyn3rpeym.cloudfront.net/terminal/product-sheets/wp3_product_sheet.pdf

I've tried with my reader
however, this button just reboots the reader. Is this the only way to reset the reader?
