Migrated in from what to what?
client has been using a third party service called "GiveButter" to take donations and subs. we are currently building a new membership area using Woocommerce.
the subs are in Stripe Express...which we have not seen before.
wondering if we should upgrade Stripe Express account to a standard account.
any thoughts?
You're comparing a lot of things that seem to be unrelated and the verbiage seems to indicate that you may not understand how Stripe Connect works. What specifically are you hoping to do? What is the current-state of your integration? What is the desired future-state of the integration?
I need way more information in order to be helpful
we have migrated subs before. just haven't used Stripe Express account before.
client has 400 subscriptions that exist with Give Butter and Stripe Express. we are creating a membership site and want to migrate the existing subs to Woocommerce.
can a sub created with Stripe Express be migrated?
i mean, ultimately we will be using Stripe with Woocommerce. so, they don't really need to be migrated...we just need to add them to give users access to members area.
You're using the word 'migration', which to me implies that the subscriptions are being removed from one place and moved to another, but it sounds like you mean something along the lines of 'can we have our existing subscription data ported to WooCommerce'. Is that correct? I'm just trying to understand, because I have no idea if Give Butter is a Connect platform or a Connect sub-account. I also have no idea what the integration scheme looks like now.
In general, you cannot migrate subscriptions. You have to create new subscriptions to replace the old ones
yeah. sorry, migration is probably not the right word.
client used this third-party account to setup recurring donations. and now client wants to give those donors access to the members area on the site.
couldn't we import the existing subs via email and just assign a membership to those? and then any new subs would just be setup inside Woo.
When you say 'import' do you just need some amount of data from the Subscriptions? Or are you creating entirely new subscriptions that are now going to be handled/charged through WooCommerce?
preferably they would be ALL NEW inside Woo.
we are just trying to keep the existing subscribers from having to cancel and then re-signup
if we could create a user profile inside WP that would give access to a members only area then that would suffice. i can't see anything really in the stripe express account
Ahhh, okay. Unfortunately that's not possible. Subscriptions have to be recreated and you would have to bring the customers back into the payment flow to reauthenticate their payment details and setup the new subscriptions. There isn;t currently a migration process for subscriptions
that is what i was thinking. because of the payment details.
so, we would need to cancel all existing subs and ask people to re-sign up?
thanks for you insight by the way!
or could we just leave the subs that are created inside stripe express and give those users a membership with just their email and name?
give those users a membership with just their email and name?
I don't know what a membership is in this context or what you're giving them access to, so I'm not sure how to answer that
the membership is still being defined. but it would be exclusive content only members can access.
the problem would be managing the payment details moving forward.
as in, if they cancel then it would have to manually cancel their access to site since it would not be integrated with Woo
Correct. You would have to develop your own pipeline for syncing data between the Stripe integration and WooCommerce. It would likely be better to stick with one of the 2 platforms and try to do everything with one or the other (as opposed to both at the same time)
do you know if a Stripe Express account can be changed to a Stripe Standard account?
It cannot. You have to re-onboard as a Standard account
