two days ago i came to stripe with a problem they agreed with and were going to fix. yesterday i think i pissed the person i was talking to off.

your restore card flow is out of date with respect to modern browsers and no longer works as a result on many machines

beginning with covid, lots of computers now inherently flip their webcams left to right for a more natural virtual office experience

as a result, those cameras can't engage in the card scanner for undoing a card lock, because the OCR is flipped

it's currently about 11% of devices

i had made the appeal that i felt that a card restoration flow needs a voluntary h/v flip button to accomodate such machines, and provided three machines, one a flagship apple device and one a flagship microsoft device, as supporting cause

two days ago, it kind of sounded like people had the goal of a same-day fix

i kind of get the impression that i was dusted under the rug, though, because the discussion drifted to a bunch of "we can't do these other unrelated things"

so

i'm just trying to repeat that we need a technical fix because our devices can't use your restoration flow, because of a change in webcam norms from about two years ago

i already provided a capture of the flow that showed that it wasn't a failed image or bad lighting or whatever; the brio's image is quite clear

i want to avoid the other unrelated topics, because they actually are things you can't do, and i'm not asking for them. however, they come up in explaining the situation, which often confuses matters.

for clarity, i have no goal of causing you to impact other companies in any way.

i just want a toggle button.
