That's just how the reconciliation system works. I don't really have a good answer for why unfortunately.
When automatic daily payouts are enabled, and a transfer fails, I transition our account from auto to manual to prevent more money going out. I would expect the balance to continually increase until going over $0 then seeing more transfer succeeding. However, it doesn't really behave like that. A negative balance can become more negative (shouldn't these fail?) or become more positive. So, my question is, why do some transfers fail but others succeed even when the balance is negative?

I believe it has to do with the account's negative balance threshold. If I remember right, connected accounts can go negative up to a certain point, but I'm not very familiar with that space. Does the negative balance threshold apply to the platform account? The direction of these transfers is going from the platform out to the connected accounts.
Again, that would be a better question for our support folks. I'm not sure what the thresholds are or how the balance comes into play in this scenario
