For example:
Invoice charged to customer: $1000
- task from supplier 1 for $100
- task from supplier 2 for $200
- task from supplier 3 for $700
Then we would like to pay out to:
supplier 1 for $100
supplier 2 for $200
supplier 3 for $700
(simplified without the fees calculation for now.)
however, supplier 1, 2, and 3 could be in different countries around the world.
Hmmmm...that is definitely a Connect and Separate Charge & Transfers funds flow
Currently we are using Paymentrails/trolly to manage the supplier payout side, however, can we use stripe to manage the payout as well?
But the cross border transfer issue is problematic. I think we do allow cross-border payouts though
Stripe supports separate charges and transfers in the following regions: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Europe, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the U.S. Separate charges and transfers are supported if both your platform and the connected account are in the same region (for example, both in Australia). For cross-region support, see the cross-border transfers docs.
So it looks like transfer for cross border is only enabled if our account is US based.
👋 stepping in as Snufkin needs to step away
That's correct, cross border payouts is only supported for US platforms currently
Thank you!
So there is basically no way for us to proceed with using Stripe to payout our suppliers unless if we setup a US based account?
If you are looking to use Separate Charges & Transfers and have a Canadian platform then you can only use this with Canadian Connected Accounts
Also, one last question, say if we set up a US-based account. (We actually operate in USD, even tho we are based in Canada, but we have a legal US entity.)
Can we transfer USD payout to suppliers that are connected say from a country in Europe (say France) that does not use USD?
If so, will Stripe be doing a USD -> Euro conversion, or will the receiver's bank be doing the conversion?
Or are we forced to pay out in Euro by funding the account with Euros as well?
The conversion would happen on transfer
So you would transfer in USD and the Connected Account would receive in Eur
Then they would pay out in Eur
Okay, so our main Stripe account would not be forced to hold Euros as well. We can still operate mainly with USD, then rely on transfer to do the proper conversion with the connected account (to whatever currency the supplier uses.)
That's correct
Amazing, thank you both for your help!
