Hello! The guidance there is intended to discourage you from doing something like creating a Setup Intent now, then waiting an extended period of time to confirm it, as doing so may not work due to the delay. Setup Intents are designed to be created and then confirmed soon after. As long as you're doing that and not waiting to confirm for a long time you'll be fine.

#

Also, you don't need to clean up Setup Intents you don't use. For example, if you create a Setup Intent and then it doesn't ever get confirmed, that's fine. You can leave it be with no ill effects.

Awesome, I think this answers our most pressing questions around the "clean up" step: which we really don't need to worry about it sounds like.

Yep, that's likely the case. If you can describe your Setup Intent flow I'd be happy to provide recommendations if I hear any red flags though.

Currently we have a page for customers to save their credit card or bank account for future charges.

They navigate to that page, we create a Setup Intent, they then plug in their payment method, and verify it using Oauth if needed. On setup success they are redirected to our success page.

Currently we are only supporting payment methods that appear to be "instant" like Cards and US Banks Accounts in our Setup Intents.

Yeah, that sounds fine to me. I don't think you need to worry about any kind of clean up in that scenario.

I should add though that if they navigate away from the page the Setup Intent kind of just sits there and that was what our question was about.
